You can also consider smcFanControl to actually speed up the internal fans, since Apple tends to value quiet over cool (which is what that fancy fan-blade spacing on the rMBP is really about). Starting from cold, you can see if the fans begin to speed up to deal with the rising temperatures and, if not, follow gorillab_99's instructions for resetting the SMC controller and then use Temperature Gauge to see it the reset worked. It'll give you readings of all the temperature sensors in real time (and in Centigrade, too ? ) as well as the fan speeds. You might want to check out Temperature Gauge in the App Store. When i want to restart, the screen stay black and it appears a sound, three bip continuously. He became very hot some times and he doesn't restart. I have the same problem, i'm in France and my computer shut down whithout reasons. If any of you try this and it works for you as well, please post a reply to make sure that what worked for me will work for everyone else with the same problem. The LED indicator may turn off to indicate the SMC reset (in my case, it flashed from orange to green and back to orange, but if you have a fully charged battery, I think it changes from green to off and back) Hold control+option+shift and the power button down at the same time.Ĥ. Disconnect your MagSafe power adapter for 10 seconds (not mandatory, but I figure it can't hurt).ģ.

Instructions on how to reset the SMC as follows.Ģ. Must have had a bug in one of the updates that causes the SMC to go wonky. I reset the System Management controller (SMC), the module that controls important functions such as heat and battery management, and it fixed everything. Worked fine when I first got it, then after a software update it started to overheat with symptoms just like the ones described in your posts. I had the same issue with my new i7 MacBook Pro 13" mid-2012 model.
